Concrete is one of the best choices for any flooring. It is long-lasting and can bear wear and tear due to varied uses. It can be used in several ways for the flooring and what suits best will depend upon the traffic borne by your flooring.

Concrete based options for your flooring

You can use polished concrete, or concrete resurfacing technique, or concrete epoxy depending on the area which requires good flooring. For driveways, sidewalks, or patios that are damaged to a minor extent concrete resurfacing works best. You can change the look of these areas without the need for replacement with this technique. Polished concrete in this context is not advisable as the prior treatment condition of the basic concrete slab has to be very good for it to be effective.

The technique of concrete resurfacing

In concrete resurfacing, a thin overlay of cement combined with specific bonding agents is spread over the existing slab of concrete. The cracks and chipping are rectified, and then the floor is levelled to give it a new appearance. But if the damage is extensive or caused due to radiation, fire, or extreme conditions, then the option of concrete resurfacing does not work. Here, concrete epoxy comes into play!

Concrete Epoxy Flooring

Concrete epoxy flooring scores over other alternatives due to its solvent, chemical and acid resistance, stain resistance, easy maintenance, slip resistance, and several other features. The addition of epoxy to concrete paint gives it extra toughness and durability. This works well on damaged slabs and is effective even if the slab is cracked heavily, uneven, or damaged in any other way.

The flooring is available in varied hues, blends, and textures alongside providing higher durability and easy maintenance. The added toughness has made it a popular choice for industrial flooring and garage floors. Industrial and garage floors bear heavyweight traffic and are also more prone to spillage of oil, grease, chemicals, and stains. The industrial and garage floor epoxy gives the added strength.

However, one has to remember that each of the techniques of concrete resurfacing, polished concrete, or concrete epoxy have their pros and cons and are suited for specific applications. You must choose them wisely.
