Tips on Applying Concrete Paint
Your house may have an exterior floor or the garage floor that is made of concrete. On the outside, concrete is as drab as a dormouse, and it may stick out like an eyesore when compared to the rest of your beautifully designed house.
Fortunately, you can concrete paint your floor as a DIY project. Here’s how:
Tools needed
- Hand sander
- Tack cloth
- Bucket
- Paint roller
- Vacuum
- Mop
- 80 grit sandpaper
Materials needed
- Acrylic-based masonry sealer
- Concrete bonding primer
- Stain blocker
- Degreasing solution
- Epoxy paint (acrylic) for concrete
Floor wash: First, you need to thoroughly wash the concrete floor with a degreasing solution. This should be followed by mopping the concrete surface until it is sparkling clean. This step should ideally be performed a few days before the actual concrete painting is done. This is because the concrete should be dry before the DIY project can commence.
Vacuum and sand the floor: Use sandpaper, preferably 80 grit, to sand the entire concrete flooring. Pay special attention to uneven areas and old paint. This should be followed by vacuuming the whole floor, after which a tack cloth should be used to remove any residues.
Filling of the cracks and holes: If you find that the concrete floor is rough or cracked, patch up the areas with a concrete mixture. This mix is readily available at hardware stores.
Application of primer: Use a paint roller for applying two coats of primer. Take care that there is adequate time between the coats.
Application of epoxy paint: Use either a clean paint roller or a paint compressor to apply two coats of epoxy paint at the least. You have to remember to let the first coat dry before applying the second coat of epoxy paint.
Application of masonry sealer: With the help of a clean roller or a compressor, carefully apply a few coats of masonry sealer- the more, the better. Remember to let the floor dry in between the coats.
For a better, long-lasting finish, it is better to trust a reputed epoxy flooring specialist in Sydney. Epoxy flooring systems such as epoxy resin can render your flooring a superior, luxurious finish when done professionally.
