Types of Epoxy Flooring

Epoxy floors may be something you have not heard of just yet, but in a nutshell, it is a floor surface coating comprised of several layers of epoxy of at least 2 millimetres in thickness. Any less than 2 millimetres is referred to as a floor coating. 

Epoxy resin is a floor coating system made from a mix of resins, hardeners, and other additives. When mixed, the resulting chemical reaction creates a very rigid, strong, and durable plastic material that bonds well with the substrate it is applied to. Self-dispersing - It is a strong epoxy floor that does extremely well in heavy use and high traffic areas like industrial flooring in warehouses and other industrial buildings. 

Self-dispersing with quartz sand – This epoxy floor is much like a self-dispersing floor, but it has anti-slip properties. Sand is added to provide a non-slip surface. It is perfect for hospital floors or professional kitchens. 

Self-levelling – Self-levelling epoxy is applied to provide a level, smooth, and durable surface over damaged, cracked, or old concrete floors. This type of flooring is easy to clean and maintain, making it good for high traffic locations. 

Mortar epoxy – Known as the most robust of all types of epoxy flooring in Sydney, it is made of pure solid epoxies and quartz sand. It is used for repairing any cracks or holes on floors before applying another epoxy floor type. 

Gravelled epoxy – Known as the most decorative type with non-slip properties, it is mostly used to add brand marks, decorative floor details, and logotypes to floors. It is also the type that is most complicated to apply.

Epoxy terrazzo – Used mostly in large open spaces and known for being very decorative

Anti-static epoxy – Possesses a conductive compound that accumulates static electricity and dissipates potential discharge. It is very good for use in sensitive industrial flooring or laboratory areas where there may be flammable materials. 

Flaked epoxy – These are epoxy floors that have added colour flakes or chips added to provide decorative touches. The flakes or chips provide a rougher surface that makes it anti-slip.
